![]() ![]() So far I think my game looks worse than the original games, which is unacceptable to me, so I have to figure out something to do with the graphics. To enable clicking in the game world I'm converting clicks on my render texture "game screen" into click in the game world by converting the coordinates and ray casting into the game world. This project made me realize that you don't actually need a camera to render your UI. ![]() To get the look I have at the moment I have a camera on my player rendering the game world to a render texture and then I display that render texture in my UI. I love the "cockpit" feel you get with the classic games where you have all these buttons and icons surrounding the game screen. not like in Legend of Grimrock where the game view fills the entire screen. My UI is just a screenshot from Eye of the Beholder at the moment and not interactive at all, but I know I want that type of look for my game, ie. Here's what my game looks like at the moment:Īnd this is a direct comparison from Eye of the Beholder 1:īut since I'm working in 3D I'm also experimenting with other things like sprite shadows: At the moment I'm using assets taken directly from Eye of the Beholder and emulating the look of that game as close as possible, just to see what's possible in terms of recreating pixel art in 3D. With that said I haven't decided exactly how I want this game to look, it could very well end up having 3D characters, but I'm hoping that's something I'll discover soon enough and maybe something someone else can help me to decide. Actually designing games and writing game logic is what I enjoy about game development so I wanted to work on a project that doesn't require any of the aforementioned stuff. I may end up open sourcing the project in the end, but at the moment I haven't decided if this is something I want to try and sell at some point or not, and right now this is moot anyway because the project is full of copyrighted assets as I'm just using the Eye of the Beholder assets directly to have something nice to look at while working on the project and at the same time I love not having to waste time creating my own assets when all I want to do is design the game and write the code for it.Īfter practically losing my mind trying (and failing) to get 3D animation rigs and IK to work in another project I realized that I absolutely hate doing that stuff. I will also happily share whatever I can from the project if anything is of interest. I will share my progress in this thread and hopefully gather insight and inspiration from anyone who wishes to share it with me. Goggamespyi7b6ybpnpnlwhb4md6owgbijfsuj6z5hesqt3yfyz42rad.I've decided to try and make an old school dungeon crawler in the vein of games like Eye of the Beholder and the more modern Legend of Grimrock.
